Hello everyone
I'm new to the forum and haven't been on a bike in years. Thinking of buying a new hybrid bike and have been looking at the Carrera Subway from halfords. Does anyone own this bike and if so what do they think about it? I'm probably going to spend about £300 on the bike so if anyone has any other recommendations I would appreciate that.

Additionally I may need to store the bike in my garden as I dont have any indoor space for it. Would it be OK to just use a bike cover for this or is this likely to still cause it to get rusty.

Cheers

Paul

Have a search of the forum, I think you'll find that the Subway is an excellently reviewed bike.

I don't think you'll have any undue problems with rust using a bike cover; my Ridgeback Velocity sits out back in a bike cage, its roofed but open to the elements via slatted wooden doors. Some surface rust has formed on the stem clamp but nothing to worry about IMO and if I'd cleaned it more regularly it probably wouldn't of happened. My main concern about outdoor storage would be security.

Have had a Subway for a good few years as a hack back. It's been a loyal servant. They are good bikes. A word of warning. Once you have bought your bike, don't let Halfords set it up. Take it to your local independent bike shop and ask them to do it.

What do you mean setup? I assumed most bikes are ready to go when you buy them is that not the case??

They should be but Halfords has a reputation for how bad they set them up,depends on how good the yts lad is.

Use the search feature to check out the Halford's horror stories. Then you will understand why I suggested that.
The classic quote 'you pay peanut's and you get monkey's' is very apt in this case.

When you buy the bike, Halford's would have set it up to THEIR standard's which more often then not is below the normal standard expected.
