Looking at the specs, which is the better bike on paper for a first road bike as a cheapy that can be forgotten about if I don't get on with it.

I would really appreciate any useful comments about this.

I just got rid of my tdf not that there was any thing wrong with it it was superb for the money. I got the bike shop to tweak the gears for me and never had a problem with it. But I upgraded to defy last month. But I would buy one again knowing whats it like. Ideal as a first bike. I would have kept it as a second bike but the wife had other ideas

Ive got the carrera vituoso its a good solid bike not the lightest but nippy enough had mine about 6 month and done nearly 2000 mile without a hitch but since getting it changed peds and just bought lighter wheels as ones that are on are heavy but for price you cant go wrong for a first road bike

cheers

I bought one 8 weeks ago and to date have changed the pedals to SPDs and changed the wheels to Planet X Model B's. The original wheels as you say are very heavy, but also solid. Only thing I do notice is it's a bit awkward to change up the gears if you're not riding on the hoods. Well pleased with the bike so far and as you say, it's not the lightest, but with a few ££s spent on improving the wheels / tyres, it makes an excellent first time bike for sensible money.
