Started cycling about 6 weeks ago after a very long break, bought a 2012 Carrera Kraken from halfords had a few set up problems but overall very good srarter. Theres a but the paint job is driving me nuts its a silk white colour which is fine but it marks badly at just about everything.Recently fitted a front mudguard (advised by halfords) with a set of rubber straps to secure them to frame didn't stay on long as it trapped the gear cables but the straps marked the frame paint and now have brown stripes. The mud off the canal with diesel in it also marks the frame. The question is this,is it worth paying for a rebuild and respray? thanks all

Is it worth paying for a rebuild and respray?
If you can do it yourself, and your happy with a rattle can finish then I'd say yes why not

However, if you'd have to pay someone to do it for you and then get sprayed or powder coated professionally, then IMO I'd say no it's not worth it

well i thought this ....but it was a present from my partner which gives it sentimental value but not tech savvy enough to rebuild it myself

In that case it's priceless in your eyes, so worth learning how to do it all yourself to make it even more special IMO.

It's surprisingly easy, and extremely gratifying to strip, clean, prep, spray and re-build a bike.

Especially at the end when you stand back and you can say,"Do you know what, I did that" :becool:
