No, not another carbon vs aluminium thread! A little rant.
Needing to replace my handlebars on my new build, I decided to try to get carbon, and being a tight git (or short on funds), I wanted to get a 'bargain'. I thought I'd done really well picking up some Bontrager xxx Lite bars on e-bay for £60 (plus £2.80 postage).
Sadly when they turned up, they turned out to be not such a bargain. They'd had tri bars or aero bars clamped on them (contrary to manufacturers recommendations), which had left indentations or damage, so I had to return them, or at least I would, if the e-bay seller would send his address!
Lesson learned, e-bay, approach with caution!
To be fair, the damage is slight (too slight to see on the photos on e-bay), but how bad would you want damage from crushing to be on carbon bars at the most critical point, either part of the stem, in order to really not want to fit carbon bars!
