I Have a set of 404 and 808’s with alloy braking surfaces. I also have a disc wheel that I have been advised cannot be upgraded to 11 spd. So will need to look at replacing another disc, however most disc wheels these days have carbon braking surfaces, and if I am to move forward with replacing and updating this would seem to be the way to go. Does anyone out there know what issues, if any, I would see in mixing carbon braking surfaces on the rear and alloy on the front. I realise I will need to change the brake blocks to suit wheel materials. I would welcome your thoughts.

Are you looking at tubs or clinchers? I assume from the fact you have a disc wheel it is a TT bike.

I would just take out one of the cogs on the 11 speed cassette if they are separate and run 10 gears with the 11 speed shifters , you might need a spacer on first but it would let you to continue to use the wheel .
