Canyon ultimate | Cervelo R3

Hi all.
Used to be pretty regular on here but iv had a break from cycling and im only just returning after realising how much I missed it....
Anyway a work buddy is looking to spend his limit on our very generous c2w scheme. He's pretty keen on the Cervelo R3 after riding our mates Canyon Ultimate. This particular friend of ours has stated that the R3 is exactly the same frame as his Ultimate.
Can anyone confirm if this is true as he seems to have taken it as gospel and dead keen on the R3 as a result of the canyon test ride .

I really doubt that it's the same frame. Neither are going to be using open mould.
Did he mean similar ?

Just looked at photos. Definitely not the same. Just a casual glance tells you that.

They are very obviously different but honestly if your mate's daft enough not to even look at them then whatever.

Can he not get the Canyon if he likes the Canyon?

Thanks all. Perhaps I should have mentioned that the canyon was a 2012 model......my bad. That being said they still look different.
