I'm having a bad computer week! I have been sent an email with word documents attached (known source and can usually open ok - agendas and minutes). I double click to open document and an internet explorer screen comes up telling me to check my computer settings, I've had a look on my norton and internet options and nothing is immediately obvious to miss computer thicky pants so any help accepted.

Have you tried saving the documents to your desktop, right clicking and choosing 'open with'?
Attachments sometimes seem weird with me until I download them properly! ;)

Thanks that worked, should have thought of it really. Very strange though as just a basic word document.

i've some floppy discs that contain some interesting documents from long ago. problem is that they were written on an Amstrad something or other (9012 word processor?). Opening them appears impossible.

Very frustrating indeed.

try googling for an amstrad emulator (a piece of software that mimics the amstrad operating system). you might be able to open the documents with it.

Try contacting Dave's Disc Doctor Services on 01892 835974, he once transferred some Amstrad stuff onto floppies for me, dunno if he still exists.

Yes just google "amstrad - pc conversion" and you'll find plenty of old men in sheds who will do it for you.

I've just had all my Dad's work converted from PCW files to CD that can be read on his new Mac. I used a guy in Cornwall who did with no fuss at all.

Whilst the saving to desktop provided a solution clearly I need something more permanent as the same is happening everytime I receive a word document. I am assuming that in my attempt to fix the home network problem earlier in the week I have changed something in the norton or internet security which is preventing me opening these documents as it has never been a problem before. Can someone tell me what to check and correct that will provide me with a long term solution. I receive a lot of work emails through my system with attachments and it is not feasible to save them to the desk top everytime I want to open them. Thank you.
