Blast and blast again!

I like my tyres nice and straight on the rim, running nice and true, usually not that hard. But not this time!

I've been fighting with a pair of Continental Mountain Kings on Mavic rims for ages and I absolutely cannot get them to run straight. On the road at speed I feel like shouting 'yee-haa, giddy up horsey!'.

Ok, a slight exaggeration, but they're like drunken men. The bead on the tyre seems to be deeper than the rim and no matter how I push, pull, prod and twist the things they won't sit evenly. I tried moving the tyre along the rim a bit too but it made no difference and I'm out of ideas.

Any tips?

Easy. pump them up to as much as you can cope with, at least 60psi, leave them over night. let them down to the pressure you want, and they'll work lovely.

You may need to repeat this with a few more psi to get them to seat right, but it will work.

NO! no! no! NOT dishwash liquid! See the discussion elsewhere about the high salt content of dishwash liquid. It will rust your rims and worse, it will attract moisture and remain damp inside the rims.

Talc is the best lubricant for rubber as it is naturally slippery.

is this due to the tyres being suitable for tubeless running, mine are the same, i just inflate to around 100psi, they pop, when i say pop i mean they pop on to the rims, and then i let them down
