Put the whole thing in a vice with the jaws bearing on those flats, get someone to sit on top of it then turn the frame.

The only problem is knowing which way to turn the frame; I believe BB cups unscrew towards the back of the bike, same as pedals, i.e. the left hand one is a reverse thread, but someone will come along and confirm this soon.

Once you've got one out and removed that axle you might find it easier to fit a big bolt and some nuts and washers into the other, torque it all up and use the bolt to unscrew the bearing cup. Which side you do this from is determined by which way you want to turn the cup.

PS: If you're doing a full restoration job on the frame, a welder will tidy up that chainsuck damage on the RH chainstay for a few beer tokens.

PPS: Alternatively take the frame along to a local bike shop and bribe the mechanic with a packet of Hobnobs.

If it's English - the non drive side threads as normal so if you can get that in a vice you need to turn the frame anti-clockwise to undo it.

It looks as though you will get better purchase on the drive-side cup so pop that in a vice and turn clockwise.

A big adjustable spanner might also work - then again the metals may have fused together making it very hard work.

Nope, not budged a single mil

Tried spanners, wrenches, pliers, hammers+chisels, vices, blow-tourch. Nothing.

Even tried drilling holes in it to devise a means of wrenching it off, drills aint even scratching it.

The vice method definitely works - I got my mechanic to sort out an old bike's BB a few years ago. I was there and he made it look so simple  I had spent ages using, also, other methods suggested by G Brown with not luck at all.

You have to

a) Have 100% confidence that the thing will come off.

then

b) Get medieval with the thing - pour all your pent up frustration into one mutha of a heave.

Good luck.

Partial success. I've got the drive-side off and the spindle out.

Still can't get the stainless Steel bit on the other side out, I'm calling stalemate for tonight.

Do you think this WILL come out or, should I consider jacking this one in? The bottom bracket needs replacing - can't be saved - so there's not much point doing anything else while it's still stuck, I don't wanna go buying other bits till I know I can proceed.

The non-drive side is the adjustable bit so won't be threaded as far in and should be easier to take off (in theory!).

Ah it's not a "restoration" affair just messing about with the thing really.

I cleaned up all those gouges myself you'll never know they where there once it's all painted up and such
