Front brake caliper is not fully opening when brake is released so I thought I would remove iot and strip and clean it then see about a new spring.

Inserted allen key into the back of the bolt that goes through the fork but if I apply any more brute force somethingis going to break.Soaking in WD 40 AT the mo .Any suggestions.

Previously I have sprung the end of the spring out and bent it a bit more but now not responding to this treatment fully.

PS its a Scott speedster 30 with carbon fibre fork and Scott Pro brakes.

Do you have any t bar allen wrenches?

I always use them now as they give considerably more leverage than normal allen keys. You may need more force than you consider acceptable with basic allen keys due to the limited leverage. Do you have any sort of pipe you could use to extend the allen key perhaps?

Other than that just make sure you're using the correct size and the correct type of tool. Is it an allen bolt or a hex bolt?

They are usually allen bolts IME, but I've never had the problems your haivng TBH.

If all else fails it might be a trip to your LBS to get the nut cracked for you.

Just an observation, but you haven't mentioned disconnecting the brake cable, as if this is worn/frayed it would stop the brake from releasing.^_^

Thanks for the suggestion guys but it was the same with the cable off. I have sprung out the end of the spring and bent it a bit which is working better for now. It will need drilling out now ,have had LBS have a quick look and some asdvice on how to drill it out, Bit scary as cant really run to a new fork just now if it goes wrong .Going to leave it for now then approach it when I have lots of time and patience to give it.

If you need it to be drilled out, send me the fork I can do that for you. I have a cnc machining centre for such things

Many thanks for that offer Martin.I was just on the point of giving in and getting in touch when I had a brainwave and got it out with an easy out.

Eureka ^_^^_^ Cleaned all the grime between the moving bits and now its operating perfectly. Just hoping now that LBS will have a top hat nut for me to reassemble it with.

No problem, glad you got it sorted out. I think Shimano sell the top hats seperately.
