I've got a Sora 3300 groupset from 1999 (I think) and I need to replace the inner chainring, it's 39T, 130BCD. Trouble is, I can't find another on the internet for a reasonable price or in good condition.
Would any other chainring of the same size work? It doesn't have to be an 8 speed like the original, right?
Thanks in advance

Spa Cycles 39t 130BDC Inner Chain ring. Should fit ok.

I guess more of a general question - how does the "speed" of a groupset make a difference? For example, if I were to fit a 130mm BCD and 39T chainring from a 2x10 setup, would it work with my 2x8?

The biggest difference between groupsets as the no of speeds increases is that the chain itself isn't as wide - a 9 speed chain is quite a bit wider than an 11 speed chain - however the spacing between the plates of the chain remains the same, it's the outer material that becomes thinner.

I've used 10 speed chainrings with both 9 and 11 speed groupsets without issue.
