I got myself a brand new Cannondale Synapse 6 Alloy 2014 - Tiagra on C2W scheme. (http://www.cannondale.com/gbr/catalog/product/view/id/32150/s/synapse-6-tiagra/category/916/)

I have had the bike for 13 days and I have covered 170 miles.

The bottom bracket has started making a horrible crunching / creaking sound every time I pedal, especially when standing up. It sound like walking on eggshells. I have used the bike every day to commute 2.5 miles each way, and a few leisurte rides. I weigh 100 kg. This is my forst road bike, and for the best part of a grand, I was not expecting creraks like this after 9 days.

I have read several bad things about BB30. I assume I should be taking this back to the shop, or is there some special maintenance I should be undertaking with BB30?

I greased the seatpost and the pedals, so i know these are not to blame.

Thanks

Take it back to the shop. It will be under warranty. If it is anything like the Crux I bought a while back, you might find that it has been put together without enough grease - my Specialized needed both hubs and the bottom bracket re-assembling within a week of purchase.

Back to bike shop....but you could solve the problem yourself first. I'm not being smart as I don't know about your mechanical knowledge mine is not the worlds greatest!! but this could be from a crossed chain from being in the extreme gears. Small sprocket rear large sprocket front is one example this causes the chain to rub on the derailleur.
It could also be from a loose part in the bottom bracket area....loose pedal, loose crank arm, loose chainring bolt(s) check the area over and make sure all is tight but don't swing out of it . It could also be like Albert posted above a lack of grease used when being assembled. In any case if it is your BB which sounds like you're walking on egg shells the bearings/races are probably shot......back to bike shop.

Hi I had the same noise from my BB30 bottom bracket on my Cannondale Caad 10 after 400 miles. I took the bike to my LBS and the bearings where noisy and he said there was a lack of grease he replaced them with a better bearings and has been all good since

+1 for taking it back, and keep taking it back if it persists whilst under warranty.

If it still happens when it's out of warranty think about converting it to something else, I did and have not had a single problem since.

BB30 was, and continues to be the answer to a problem that never existed.

Thanks for the responses. I took off the the cranks and put a bit of Lithium grease on the inside of the bearings as well as on the spindle that the left (non drive side) crank attaches to. This appears to has resolved the creaking issue. I will keep an eye on it though.

The main bolt on my new FSA crankset had slackened after the first ride and when I put the torque wrench on it, set to 40nm, it turned about 20 degrees before the torque wrench clicked over. New cranksets DO need re-tightening.
