Cannondale Serial Number?

I've just had to go through a bit of a mission to get my serial number from my Cannondale.....but does anyone know if they mean anything? It's a two line number as follows

######??#####

#???#? ##


(where # is a number and ? is a letter)

And which bit do I need to quote for insurance/registration purposes?

I had problems when I tried to register my Synapse SL on line. The serial number layout was nothing like the layout requested on the web form. Still don't know if it is registered correctly.
