Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of a dilemma choosing between the CAADX (£1,050) and the Terra (£999). I want a sub £1000 CX/Gravel bike on the C2W scheme for commuting and messing about on towpaths and in the mud.

Does anyone know how the Terra fares when it's given some wider/knobblier tyres? It seems to be the far better spec'd bike with Shimano 105 vs Tiagra on the Cannondale, but I want it to be capable of going off road comfortably as I have a Cervelo R3 for main road duties.

Any thoughts? Cheers

Loch side.
I don't know either bike but I do know Cannondale's fondness for BB30.

Therefore, if the Cannondale uses BB30 and the other one not, then the other bike is the better choice. Nothing on earth is more irritating and disappointing than BB30. Just search the treads here on that topic.

I'd be with Yellow Saddle on that.

The gulf between 105 and Tiagra isn't really enough to get sniffy about, unless you're down to the tie-tie-tiebreaker level.

Go to a shop, eyeball them carefully to answer your tyre question, and ride them.

Thanks for the responses both. I don't live anywhere near a store that stocks either bike, so it's going to be a mail order jobby.

Leaning towards the Orro now. The shop I want to order from has a 2 week wait on the green colour or a shorter wait on the polished aluminium. Choices choices!

+1 on avoiding BB30.

Between the two bikes you have selected there are a number òf differences.

CAADX has 46/36 chainrings vs Terra with 50/34 (I swapped to 50/34 on my CAADX during the conversion from BB30)
I didn't rate the Promax Render callipers on my CAADX. Never used TPR spyre however so cant compare.
Stock wheels on the CAADX are functional, but a bit heavy. Fulcrum on the Terra would, for me, be a better choice. I use Fulcrums on two of my other bikes.

On the other hand Cannondale aluminium frames are highly rated and I loved riding my CAADX till it got hit by a car.

Just wondering what size you're after. I've been waiting nearly eight weeks for my large frame silver Terra. It could be they're waiting for a consignment of frames from the far east, so hopefully you'll be lucky.

Medium mate, I think I-ride have dispatched it to leisure lakes as of Friday. I've gone for a green one which wasn't in stock on LL so coming straight from
supplier.

Hope yours comes soon though, what did you go for?

Oh that's good, I was in exactly the same dilemma, had a test ride on the CAADX, liked it but 105 gearing, and frame caught my eye with The Orro. I'm 6ft so gone for the large frame Terra drop bar in silver I've sat on a medium, but not actually had a test ride. Should be fine though ( fingers crossed).
