4 hours of training on 1500kcals ? seems unlikely to me... that equates to -500kcals before he does anything else that day, an average person on a strict diet not doing particulualy much exercise would struggle on that amount of food, let alone if you had done 4 hours of pro level cycle training...

I think The Times are just learning how to do cycle reporting.

Now I'd like Sky to do well but The Times do seem to be overdoing their coverage.

Oh! Wait a minute, Sky, aren't they owned by News International, who also own The Times who are all owned by Murdoch? Call me a cynic but...

Still if it means more cycling coverage then I'm happy.

yep, I can eat double that and still lose weight doing a lot less, and a lot slower, than he is.

I like the description of the Ruta del Sol as a sort of glorified training ride . I might see if there are any places going next year - could do with some warm weather in February.

Also, the article shows up in the Driving section

I thought the article was good although I also consider that the calories figure is not correct. I'm not a lover of Murdock or any media tycoon, but let's be honest he's coughed up a lot of money to get the Sky Team on the road so must get some benefits in return, articles such as this one is fair IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hasn't Murdoch snr taken more of a back seat these days leaving his BSkyB empire to be run by his kids? So maybe the sponsor ship is James' baby?

I don't think the article is aimed at bikers, it's aimed at the everyday public, and if it raises said public's awareness re bike racing and biking in general, then so much the better. Judging by some of the horror stories in "commuting" on this forum, UK cycling could do with every bit of good publicity it can get and if Team Sky will be contributing then surely that's a good thing?

Calories can't be right, surely. 1500 is a kids daily intake.

It's MY daily intake (ideally, not in reality, unfortunately). So maybe he's a girl of 5"1.

I just think it's lovely that the British media is getting behind a cycling team. It's got to be good publicity for the sport we love, surely! Well, as long as they do well.

Good to see him finish 3rd in the Vuelta a Murcia

There are some tough climbs on that race and a TT. He finished 30 secs ahead of Lance, so good on him.

One weird thing about Wiggins - I read his autobiog (which Tynan's now got although he didn't like it as much as me).

It stops just short of last year's TDF and he talks about being in the grupetto and trying to win the odd stage and makes it very clear he's not an overall contender. Then he finished 4th!

Either it was a bluff, or Brailsford or someone, has changed his thinking completely. Now he sees himself as a TDF winner potentially.

Of course if he were Italian or Spanish we would be a teeny bit suspicious... or am I being paranoid?
