Can anyone recommend a saddle. The reason being that I bought a mountain bike a couple of months ago however the saddle is so damn uncomfortable. In fact every time I ride the bike it leaves me with a painful Gluteus Maximus

Help !!!!!!

Brooks B17. Simple!

+1 charge spoon. I've got them on all my bikes.

-LOTS for the Brooks, it's a Medieval torture device not a saddle.

i am currentley commuting on 2 bikes depending on the weather 1 has an old Phillips leather saddle that is so split and old but is still very comfy , the other has a Mertans plastic covered lightly gelled saddle that is so differant to the phillips saddle but again is very comfy so just keep trying ask any other cyclist you know if you can try there saddle on your bike to see what you think , before splashing out on geusswork

No one can recommend a good saddle to anyone else - not really. Saddles and yer posterior's response to them is completely individual and it really will always boil down to trial and error. What I will say though, speaking as one who owns two Brooks saddles - I wouldn't put a Brooks on a MTB. Mud, grime and wetness does them no good whatsoever.

I was actually going to get a Charge Spoon for my winter bike to keep the build cost down. I went to Leisure Lakes with every intention of buying one, (£24.99), but they only had white and brown in stock, and I needed black.

As I needed it and couldn't wait for them to order one in I went straight to my LBS and bought the B17. Should have saved the diesel and gone straight there in the first place

Can you recommend a saddle is like "can you recommend a partner" Someone somewhere will find one or both of these two attractive http://1.bp.blogspot...uy-Hot-Wife.jpg

Personally I have Charge Spoons on my road bikes and a Brooks B17 on my tourer. Am not evangelical about it though!

Try some

This is the bet reply you've had. There's no point anyone saying this is best or that is best, as none of them may be best for you. Go to a big store like Evans, they'll have loads of different ones on their stock bikes. Spend a hour sitting on them all and see what you think.

[EDIT] IN YOUR OPINION

Stuff like this simply doesn't help. I have a Brooks B17 and it's supremely comfortable. I have a Fizik Arione that is very comfortable but requires padded shorts/tights, and I have a Spesh Langster saddle with copper rivets, comfy for short distances, but padding required for anything longer.

Try, try and try some more. Use any recommendations purely as a guide, but I'm sure you'd do that anyway

[EDIT] Having said that, SurlyNomads Brooks that he's sellng could be a great bargain, then if you don't like it I'd almost guarentee you'll get your money back for it, the thread is HERE
