Apologies if I have posted this before, but looking through my posts I can't find it so maybe I haven't. Its just that having reached the big 70 find that the Mendips are getting a bit steeper! so can I put a long cage RD on the T 3 as its a 9 speed with a triple chainwheel on it so I would be able to put a 32-11 cassette on the rear would I need anything else oh and BTW I can't spend a fortune Thanks for any thoughts

yes you can any rear D. You will need a new slightly longer chain if fitting a larger large sprocketed cassette.

you could try the new cassette (and chain) with existing RD as u might not need a new RD, depending on what is in it at moment and its capacity. Look up RD capacity and do the maths, you can normally get away with an extra tooth or two than recommended with a bit of B screw adjustment.

Thanks I've already had to adjust the B screw somewhat as fitted a 30-11 cassette on the bike and still getting some friction between the 30 tooth sprocket and the top pulley wheel I suppose thats why I queried it.

I put a 32 on mine. No mods to dereilleur or chain. Phew !
Proper granny gear now

Hello I've tried that ( 32- 11) and When I did I had the original Sora 9 speed RD on it and no matter what I did even with a longer B screw it was fouling the top pulley wheel! So now I'm wondering if I didn't do something quite right, mean while I'm still waiting for the fracture in heel bone in my foot to heal properly as even after 6 months its just beginning to feel somewhat better ( Surly it can't be true that older people are always moaning about their aches and pains????
