Can I fit the new caliper (tiagra) shimano brakes to a 1980s frame?

Are they compatible?

Will the caliper screw onto the frame?

Will the pads be able to reach the rim of the wheel (older style wheel.... slightly larger than usual)?

Ebay auction ending soon which I may dip in for as I need new brakes...so all quick responses are extremely welcome!!!

my mother suffers from cumulative stress, and has a weak heart...and you are making me nervous which makes her nervous.

Could you deal with her death on your hands?

it depends on whether you short drop or long drop brakes. i can't tell you what you need. but the tiagra are short drop, and may not reach the rim if you need long drop

hmmm there is no difference in the drop between that and the tiagra from the looks of things! but I will take your word for it that tiagra is short drop and will not reach accross the 64cm..... cheers

tiagra about 41mm drop according to CRC. you might need the 57mm drop. you might not, buts it worth checking before you buy something form ebay

certainly not worth throwing money at something which may not work.

Cheers for the help Steve
