Most of us bunny hop speed humps and potholes on road bikes..... I hop down curbs on the fixed..well not exactly hop, more like crash down it - unpaved lane with a curb on to the road.

PS you shouldn't be riding on pavements :wahhey:

I'm not sure you should be on the pavement in the first place but bunny hopping nearly any bike is fine.

I attempt to buny hop the racer now and then rather than crash through a pot hole i've missed.

I do ride on the road normally but I do jump on and off the curb when no one is around to collide into before I dismount or mount.

I also do bunny hops on the road to avoid potholes and various other objects that could damage my bike because swerving can be too dangerous on a busy road.

So bunny hops are ok then I suppose?

I'm a beginner, but is a busy road the best place for a beginner to dismount a bike?

A person doesn't have to mention the word pavement to get reminded that he or she should not be riding on the pavement.

I've never dared try, always think I'm going to stop spinning in mid-air and land in an uncontrollable skid

Used to be able to hop up and down curbs on my hybrid though.

I haven't got a problem with cyclists bouncing up/down a curb and then stopping off the road.
I don't have a problem with youg kids (or adults) riding SLOWLY on the pavement either.

However, I don't think its right to ride on the pavement at any speed unless it's clearly marked as a cycle path.

I dont use pavements when there is anybody on them. However on one of my favourite circular routes, there is a stretch of 2 or 3 miles (A153 between Grantham and Ancaster if you know it) which seems to have nose-to-tail traffic moving at 60 mph both ways, and there is a "pavement" (really just a metre-wide strip of tarmac between the verge and the hedge) so I do confess to riding on that.

I have never seen a pedestrian on it, ever. Nobody walks this stretch, because they are all in cars doing 60 mph!

Cheers Tim
