Hi All,

I have a bike which has Hayes mechanical CX Expert disc brakes. At present it has a Hayes 160 mm 6-bolt disc rotor.

http://www.hayesdiscbrake.com/products/brakes/cx/

However my LBS is currently rebuilding the front wheel with a Shimano DH-3D80 disc hub dynamo. Instead of having the 6-bolt connection for the rotor as my current hub has the new Shimano hub dynamo has the Shimano Centre-lock connection for the rotor.

Now I could buy the Shimano 6 bolt to centre lock hub adapter:-

However they are about £20 and so I'm wondering if it might be better just to buy a new centre lock disc rotor? My current rotors only have roughly 2,000 miles use and so I know that they've not reached the end of their useful life yet but if I've got to buy an adapter anyway I'm wondering if it might make more sense to just buy a new rotor.

Therefore I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a Shimano 160 mm Centre-lock disc rotor.

My LBS can order something from the Madison catalogue and from my quick search there seems to be four options:-

http://www.madison.co.uk/products/c...s/brakes/?type=rotors&size=centre-lock-160-mm

Just in case the above link doesn't work the four options seem to be:-

Shimano SM-RT20 Tourney TX £9.99
http://www.madison.co.uk/products/c...re-lock-disc-rotor-for-resin-pad-only-160-mm/

Shimano SLX SM-RT68 Ice Tech £24.99
http://www.madison.co.uk/products/c...-rt68-ice-tech-centre-lock-disc-rotor-160-mm/

Shimano Deore XT and Saint SM-RT81 Ice-Tech XT £34.99
http://www.madison.co.uk/products/c...m-rt81-ice-tec-centre-lock-disc-rotor-160-mm/

Shimano XTR SM-RT99 Ice Tech FREEZA Saint £49.99
http://www.madison.co.uk/products/c...t99-ice-tech-freeza-160-mm-centre-lock-rotor/

I must admit that I've never used any Shimano rotors before and so I don't have any experience of using them before but from a price point I'm tempted to go for the SLX SM-RT68 rotor for £24.99.

Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!

Some Shimano rotors state they are for organic compound pads only - so if you want to use sintered pads then avoid those. Otherwise any Shimano Centrelock 160mm rotor will be fine - the SLX ones seem to last forever

Hi Ipretro1,

Thanks for your reply and my bike is an all year around all weathers commuter and so braking performance in all weathers as well as hopefully being long lasting/durable are important things to me as opposed to say weight saving.

Therefore given your tip that SLX rotors seem to last forever I've gone for the SLX rotor.

Thanks for the help.
