Just got some campag wheels and plan to use a shimano derailleur with it.
Just been reading that they may not be compatible, Does anyone use this combination? or is there any problems I may have setting the gears up?
Cheers....

You'll need the wee adaptor widget for it to work properly, or re-space the cassette....

Campag 10spd spacing is 2.42 mm, shimano and sram is 2.35mm spacers. Cog thicknesses differ also campag is 1.7mm shimano and sram run 1.6mm thick cogs.

9spd: Shimano is 2.56mm and sram is 2.54, campag is 2.8mm, however campag 9spd sprockets are 1.75mm thick v shimano's 1.76mm and Srams 1.8mm.

Thus, Shimano spacing is 3.95mm and Campy is 4.12mm. After 9 shifts, the Campy RD would be too far to the left by 1.5mm which figures out to be 38% off, but if you line the middle cog up first (or one of them if you have 10 speed), that reduces of course.

Surely the pull is by the levers not the type of derailleur?

Both. There is an element of gearing in the derail as to how far it moves given an amount of cable pull - depends on the parallelagram. Campy ones are also different from 8 speed (92) onwards.
