Whether you can or can't is partly a function of the distance from the centre of the top pivot bolt on the rear derailleur, to the centre of the wheel spindle. Not all dropouts / hangers give the same dimension.
The issue may not be chain wrap, it may be the amount of clearance between the teeth of the top jockey & the biggest sprocket when you are in the small ring.
Be very cautious running a combo where you can't wrap enough chain. If you run a short chain and you grab the big-big combo by accident, it's going to cost you, big-time. Usually, rear gear and often rear wheel, nearly always a chain, if the chain and cassette are worn to each other past a certain point, a cassette too. In really unfortunate circumstances it can cost you the frame, too - so if in doubt, my advice is "don't do it" ...
