Campag Khamsin Pawls?

It probably a stupid question are the Campag Khamsin Pawl's in the rear hub engaged by centrifugal force or the wire spring that surround them. Mine aren't engaging and if its the former and Ive overgreased and if its the latter I need a new Pawl spring.

Campagnolo pawls have either individual springs (like shortened versions of a biro spring) or a common circular spring - I think the Khamsin has the latter.

If you have greased the freehub to quiet things down then that is probably the cause as the spring is weak and easily swamped by extra grease and won't work properly.

they have a circular spring - if this has broken don't ride they bike - accident waiting to happen ! the spring broke on mine and instead of not engaging it didn't freewheel , so as soon as you stop peddling the chain kept on going round the back wheel lifting the derailleurs right up till they released and banged back down - guess the next thing they would do is go into the wheel or frame - go to lbs and buy a packet . i had to buy 5 but they are cheap

Velotech Cycling Ltd sell a pawl and pawl spring hub recon kit with the new version of the circular spring (it changed at the end of 2011).
The new spring is stronger and is more resilient in the presence of grease ...
