Campag Chain Rings (Double to Compact)

With my downgeared (compact) Kinesis I had a dissator last week and will need to use my Bianchi for an up and coming trips to the Alps. It'll need to be downgeared however, as currently its a 39/53 Campag Veloce. The LBS reckon campag chain rings unlike shimano are uniform so I can put compact gears on it and no need to change the crankset; is that right?

If your chainring bolts are as close to the 39T ring as below then you would need to change LBS (as well as crankset)...

Campagnolo do:

135 BCD standard double (min 38 teeth I think)

or

110 BCD compact.

For recent chainsets with the hidden 5th Arm the hidden hole is 3mm further out (ie 113mm).

I can't work out why they couldn't make a 110 BCD all the way around:whistle:

You could just use a Shimano chainset though.

Took RAFN's advice and changed bike shops went to the Bianchi Specialist dealers, went in on Monday Night to let them check out the bike before ordering, expected them to do that next day given I made the timescales clear! They phoned back today (Thursday Afternoon) asking whether I wanted to order the compact in silver or black, they forgot to ask at the time, tbh I would have expected them to ask that next day! I'm seriously worried now and given that they are shut on Saturday (family wedding) that they'll turn it round in time

That is appalling service.

If your large rear sprocket isn't 29T, it might be an easier alternative to go large at the back than go small in front - 39/29 is nearly the same as 34/25. A longer chain might be required

Cheers, if the order comes through its for a new chainset and a cassette; I think I could have got away with one (cassette or compact) but I went for both just incase. I think I'll give a chaser call tomorrow and suggest the larger cassette if we are struggling for time.

Dropped of the bike just after 9am and before 2.30pm they've sent me a text and email to say its ready, so hopefully the panic is over and I'll take it out tonight or tomorrow night for a wee test run before the Alps

One other question if anybody can aswer it; the cassette is a 13-29 but campag cassettes are made up of individual cogs could I replace the 13 for the 12 of my old cassette?
