I’m new to this forum and was after some advice. I’m looking to start commuting by bike and think it would be prudent to buy a camera just in case anything happens.

Can anyone recommend a budget/entry level camera to record my commute please?

Have you had a look at the commuting guide on this site? There's some great advice there.

I'd echo the advice of @Oldhippy above.
Imo what keeps you safe is awareness, selecting a good route, your positioning and signalling.

Half the people I know who ride with a camera seem to encourage a close pass... Road sense can save the pain that a camera never will.
I have a chilli bullet cam, footage fine in daylight.
