I have only done the bit on the path alongside the west of Loch Lubnaig between Callander and Strathyre and I would say it is not suitable for a road bike. I cannot vouch for the remainder of the path, as I cycled the road for that stretch. It was not fun, with lots of traffic.

I cycled from Lochearnhead to Callander last year and found the A road so busy that i joined the cycle path at Strathyre on a road bike with size 23 tyres. I got a pinch puncture near Callander. I wouldn't cycle it again on a racing bike but you'd probably be OK with wider tyres.

The path i understand is hilly with some very steep sections from Balquidder to Killin but i've not cycled that section.

Thanks for the info seamab.Im on 28c marathon pluses which i think would be ok but my m8 just fitted dutch perfect 23c tyres today so I think we will head round loch katrine instead.
