At least it's a nice fast start.
I cycled up to the ski centre a few weeks back from Dalwhinnie, my back wheel was spinning in the shady bits due to ice. Bit nervy on the way down again.

It's a lovely route and the climb at the end is great (depending on how you are feeling at the time!) But I think the ascent stats on the website are overestimated. Did this years event and my computer read just over 5000 feet of climbing rather than the almost 9000 stated on the website. My companions on the ride got similar figures.

That's not to put anyone off though, it's just that the route isn't as brutal as it looks based on the website figures.

I did this a few years back and it's a lovely ride and not that hard. I didn't have a GPS back then so can't comment on the climbing stats. IIRC there is a short steep climb after Bridge of Balgie and the final ascent to the ski station is tough after 100 miles (it eases considerably after the first hairpin). My chain came off when i changed up to the big ring giving it some welly for a sprint finish! (I'd had problems with the front derailleur the whole ride).
It was well organised on the whole and we got a rather small portion of pasta at the end.

The start was scary as the hill was shrouded in mist making for a cautious descent to get going.

There's other climbs some quite long but they are dwarfed by the climb at the end. Nethy Bridge springs to mind, 8.4 miles of climbing ;)
