Hi, we will be running a Halfords C2W scheme at work in a month or so. i want to get a cross bike. I have seen the boardman in halfords and I've read about the CAADX6. Anybody got either of these bikes to give me an idea of the ride etc? Anybody able to give a riding comparison? Any other bikes I should consider? A lower price would be good too. I know the CAADX is £699 at Evans but I'm stuck with Halfords.

Hi Darren,

I replied to a chap interested in the Boardman here today: https://www.cyclechat.net/

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I like the Boardman, it's great value, but if you really wanted the CAADX6 then you should try the Halfords Head Office special order line as they can source most other brands

I went into my local Halfords this morning. They told me they can now get all 3 models in the CX range. They are looking at what sort of deal they can do me on both the CAADX6 and the Boardman. Will have to wait and see. By the way, my local Halfords ( Llanelli ) is a good one. The bike hut manager is a guy called Mark. He is a keen cyclist and has a good knowledge of cycle mechanics. He is responsible for employing bike hut staff and only employs people who know what they are doing. I also have a Team Carbon and I've never had any problems with it.

One says 'Halfords' one says 'Cannondale'

Not a hard decision really is it.

No it's not a hard decision at all. You go for the better frame, the better group set - the better all round bike for the money.
What you shouldn't do is pay a couple of hundred quid for a transfer on the side of said frame. Not if the only excuse for doing so is that you don't trust which particular monkey has tightened up the nuts and bolts. Surely you'd check these anyway no matter where you buy a bike from?

Not every Halfords store is the same. I know you can get some that are really bad and should be avoided. Before I bought my current Boardman, I went to the store, asked a lot of 'newbe' questions. i have been mainaining my own bvike for the last 20 years so I know what i'm doing ( I think ) and they satisfied me enough for me to let them build it. I've not been dissapointed. I also like the Boardman range as you get a lot for your money.

I've never even ridden a Cannondale and both get good review which is why I asked the question. i also have to get it from halfords so either bike would come from them.
