C+ kit reviews

ok i subscribe to c+ and my favourite bit is the where they review bike kit. Many hours on loo spent thinking 'ohh that looks nice' etc

Being a niave chap i always thought they were probably straight down the line, indeed they used to have a litttle speil saying that they tested the stuff themselves and it was how they found em, no account of advertising etc.

Well this month i was reading it while the liitle un was having her swimming lesson and one of the mums started taking the p*ss having spied an advert for a water bottle. I did think hmnnn thats a bit odd (and sad) dont usually see full page ads for water bottles.

Well blow me down if it wasnt reviewed in the bike kit section and got a glowing one too!!

That's not necessarily the sign of a dodgy magazine. The advertising team will always ask the editor what products are being reviewed that issue, and the ad team will then attempt to sell advertising to the vendor.

However, it is not unknown for vendors to say they'll only book the ad if the review is favourable, and in some of the less professional publications, that pressure can have an effect.

The rat you're smelling is a wrong rat...erm...that doesn't make sense. The advertising has no influence on the editorial. Promise. (Obviously, I need to come clean as my forum name gives nothing away – I work on the editorial side of the mag.) If it did, we'd all quit. We test stuff properly. Simple.

You may test stuff properly now, I can only take you at your word, but as a former representative of a company which submitted a product for review a few years ago C Pus hasn't always been so honest and impartial. In fact the testing procedure was a total farce.
