Hello guys i am buying a used bike tomorrow from Ebay but i really don't know how this going to work. I asked the guy if he has a proof of payment and he said no but the bike is registered to his name and will be signed to my name when buying. Is this the way how it works and does bikes really have registration papers? Should i insist on providing a receipt for the bike?

Bikes, as in bicycles, do not normally get registered unless it had been registered with a database for theft in which case they would need to be told it had been sold. I have had original paperwork giving me the owners address from the shop it was originally purchased from, but that has always been in the form of a receipt.
I can't help you much more because I have to disappear now (I've from the UK, just recently moved to Australia) but please do remember that most members won't be online until the morning, so you may not get much response at midnight UK time on a Monday night.

Bikes don't have "registration" papers, if you are at all concerned back out of the deal. If you are buying a fairly new bike you would expect the seller to have the original purchase receipt as proof of purchase / ownership. If they do not have proof of ownership you then have to question if the bike is legit. The ultimate choice is down to you and what you feel is right and proper.

Thank you guys for sharing your info. The seller has fairly good feedback on ebay (+200 100%) and has another ad on gumtree with the same address he provided to meet tomorrow. I'm not sure if this is enough to proceed with the deal.

What's the bike? How old is it?

Maybe he means it's on bike register or immobilise? You can check using the serial number I think or the sellers details

The bike is probably registered on a site such as 'Bike Register'.
All of my bikes are registered there. The idea is to provide a data base so that stolen bikes can be identified and retrieved. I believe the police use the same data.
I would think it unlikely that a thief would register a stolen bike on the site - unless it was some very cunning double bluff.

Ask him where he bought it from and then contact the seller to confirm validity. Double check the frame number to make sure he's selling the correct bike and not an identical stolen one.

Sounds dodgy. Tell him to go to halfords for a duplicate receipt. I've done this previously with bike shop ( needed for insurance claim). Halfords might also be able to match the bike serial number to him so get that too

Also I'd be wary that he bought on c2w which means it is not his to sell!!

What's he asking for the bike and how much does it sell for?

Thank you guys for all the information. just to update you i met the guy with the intention of walking away if i'm not completely comfortable with the purchase. I met him in a residence address and asked him about the registration he mentioned earlier and he logged to a website called "bike register" https://www.bikeregister.com and the bike was registered to his name with pictures of it. He put my name and email in the website and the bike was transferred immediately to my name which is cool. The price of the bike just got reduced today for 519 in Halfords I don't know the original price but i bought it for 300. thank you everyone for helping really appreciate it.
