Hi,
I'm looking for butterfly handlebars with wide clamp area, i.e. 31,8 mm over at least 10cm of the width of the clamped area.
I just bought a new bike (Kalkhoff Endeavour 8) to replace an old pretty ratty bike. One thing I loved about the old bike is that when I bought it secondhand it came with butterfly handlebars.
However I'm in the habit of overloading the bike with gadgets, and everything I put on the handlebars had the habit of loosening because it slid down the angle between the clamp area and the first bend in the handlebars.
The new bike came with pretty straight, far too wide, handlebars that have one great aspect: the tube retains the thickness of the clamp (31.8mm) for 8 cm out on both sides of the center line.
This is awesome as whatever I clamp to this area stays clamped! There's really no comparison to all the different ways in which over the years I've tried to stabilize the various mounts that live there. A straight tube sounds obvious but works miraculously well.
However... I'd really like to switch to butterfly handlebars, both to aid passage in our congested hallway, but also because it's more ergonomic and it suits my ADHD to grab the bars differently every 30 seconds (and shift three times as often).
I've started looking for butterfly handlebars with this feature, but alas my time is limited (need to purchase while I can deduct from taxes). So my question is: has anyone seen this feature before, or know of a brand likely to have it?
