My hub stooped...hubbing...today.

Was coasting along making a smashing clickety click, then the click became a bit less constant and had a rhythm to it. Then everything went quiet...not bang, no snapping noise or crunching...just silence.

Cranks now spin and the hub spins with it.

So, is it shot or is there a trick to making a hub...hub again?

Stuck pawls, strip and clean then re lube.

Cheers chaps...i shall google some kind of walkthrough for my Shimano hub.

In your opinion...is it worth replacing the spring myself or just swapping out the hub...in other words...is this likely to keep happening after a certain age?

Thanks again.

I haven't had one apart for a while, and maybe they've changed, but for Shimano I had to remove the spindle and bearings (the freehub body doubles as the cup for the bearings) and remove the freehub body with a 10mm allen key.

Depends on where in the food chain it is. I've not stripped one of their freehubs down, but have replaced a couple, which is a 10 minute job.

Oh sure, can replace it without a problem bit want to have a stab at sorting it first...i may as well if I'm going to bin it.
