hi all,

got back yesterday from club run to discover 2 bulges in front tyre forming a snake like look. this is the second time this has happened in as many weeks, 2 different tyres on 2 different wheels. wheel looks round and true, spokes are all tight, wheel looks good.. tyre pressure set at 8bar and no heavy potholing !. are they just bad tyres and coincidence or something more sinister. what do you think is causing the problem, bad tyres, ( hutchinson equinox / kenda ), tyre pressure, or perhaps me !! any suggestions out there, many thanks, dia.

I found the same thing on my front tyre during a recent forum ride. I took the tyre off to check it when I got home and discovered that the structure of the tyre was breaking down from the inside. Big splits were present under the bulges.

I think the tyre could have exploded at any moment so I binned it!

I should add that while I only pump my tyres to about 6.25 bar (90 psi) front and 7 bar (100 psi) rear, I bought my wheels with tyres already fitted from a friend who has a habit of using high tyre pressures. I bet he had them at around 8.5 bar (125 psi).
