so i am looking at building or buying a road bike
weight aim:10 or 11ish kg would be lovely

frame:i am looking at this one http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/ro...ter-ribble-winter-audax-525-frame/ribbfraw240

wheels: looking at these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-R...sure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item19e89c3afd
off the peg so to speak wheels for the moment and if i ever learn to wheel build i will make some nice ones for it!

forks: would like some cheap (sub £100) carbon ones if possible to keep weight down if i don't get that i am looking at http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/ro...s-winter-forks-1-1-8-its/csnaforw25000008its0
going to contact ribble to ask what they are made of

would like to mix and match with 105 and the odd bit of ultegra if i can. crankset probably won't be ultegra or 105 due to cost

what is your view on these components? any thing i should look for in particular? any components in my price range that are better than above ones? will that frame and those suggested forks take 700c? any advice re carbon forks?
any components i haven't listed or mentioned i have no clue on yet and need your help with (ie:bars, crankset etc)
Cheers Ed

no not exactly! erm yeah well......
i have a real need for a light quick fun bike! i have 3 potential projects!
1)road bike (buy or build)
2)single speed fixed (buying buts for it when and as) but that is a running, current project
3)a recumbent trike

i really am struggling to prioritise, so please members of CC HELP! please help me prioritise as to which order above projects should go in!

Look up Kinesis T2 or Kinesis TK3 frames
t2 is a little more then the ribble one i linked to but i might be able to stretch to it if it offers significant advantages? really i like the steel of the ribble one other wise i would be thinking of the alloy equivalent again ribble
this one
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/ro...er-ribble-winter-audax-7005-frame/ribbfraw220
for the price of the tk3 and a bit more i could get a carbon frame
for example

Steel build for me also !
Nothing flashy, just a good solid bomb proof bike that I can use through the winter perhaps .....
Probably later on in the year tho.
Really digging these old school retro bikes at the moment.
Good luck with yours. Look forward to hearing ( and seeing) your progress

I don't know that frame, but the Ribble 7005 alu 'winter' frameset is widely regarded as one of the best VFM set ups you can get, so if this one is even close then it should be great.

FWIW if it were me, (and it was a couple of years ago), I'd get your forks and headset from Ribble as well because they will fit them, (TBH fitted is the only way they'll supply them together, or at least it was), so that's one less thing for you to do

The alu bike will be lighter than the steel - and probably more fun - and I'm speaking as someone who has just finished building a Genesis Crox de Fer (steel) as a (not so) light tourer. The Ribble build is good value, if not the best components, but then you can always upgrade as bits wear out. I think going to 105 / Ultegra is expensive and unnecessary until you have more experience and a better idea of the type of riding you'll be doing.

As for the headset, if you use the Ribble bike-builder process you can see what components Ribble use, which will let you identify equivalents if you want to buy your own components.

Have a look at Merlin - they're currently doing an SRAM apex full groupset for £340.
Dolan have some very nice frame/fork/headset combinations at reasonable prices.
