They're all pretty much of a muchness, I suspect, and any of them will do the job. Try Oregon Scienfitic or Decathlon

How about a free one? ;)

I think I still have an old one in my junk box somewhere that you could have. It probably needs new batteries and it has a wristwatch style display, not a bar mount.

NB There is one problem with it if you have a very low resting heart rate - the minimum it will display is 40 bpm! (When I was fit, I wondered why my RHR was always shown as 40 bpm. When I bought a new HRM, I discovered that my RHR was actually 33-35 bpm but the old HRM wouldn't go that low!)

Aldi are selling a cycle computer with heart rate monitor(Chest strap) at the moment. I tried mine last night seems ok about £13

I was just going to recommend the Aldi one!

Not so sure though as I can't seem to get a reliable reading from mine at the moment, it could be due to my manly hairy chest though...

I've just posted oldgreyandslow my old one so he shouldn't be needing one now! (sorry for the delay - it was peeing it down at the weekend when I was going to post it and I don't have a car so I waited for a dry spell!)

As for dodgy HRM readings and hairy chests... I had the same problem.

Make sure you have the strap tight enough. It's a compromise between uncomfortably tight and the thing slipping down - you should be able to find a tightness which you can put up with and where the HRM sensor still stays in place.

About an inch below the nipples (for males!) seems to be the best position.

I dampened the electrodes on the back of the sensor before use to make sure there was a good electrical contact. After 30 minutes or so of riding, your sweat should do the job!

Thanks Colin, I'm looking forward to seeing how unfit I really am.

Shouldn't have too much trouble with the hair issue, Moobs on the other hand!

I've just been to my local Aldi and found no evidence that the HRM's were being sold other than the price displayed above the basket. Stirling must be full of the dreaded ebay retailers!
