On the 9th of April 2011 a group of us are getting together to do a sponsored bike ride around the quiet roads and bridleways between Broadway & Bourton on the Water. A circular route of approximately 35 miles. The route will be suitable for hybrid and mountain bikes and an optional easier route is available that avoids any big climbs.
The fundraising will be in memory of Al Bainbridge who loved the Cotswolds and made the cross-country trip between these two villages many times. In his case it was always by car and he would have thought we were all nutters to get on a bike - especially if there was a hill in the way! He would certainly have approved of the sentiment.
Why Buddy's Bike Ride? Well, we want to encourage groups of friends to do the bike ride, Buddy Holly was Al's musical hero and we had to call it something!
Al died prematurely from melanoma skin cancer in April 2010. He received fantastic treatment from the Churchill Hospital in Oxford in their Cancer Research UK ward. This fundraising is our way of saying a big thank you.
