Saw one last Friday , very nice bike and if i had the cash up front i would seriously consider it.

It's frame is quite unusual in its styling, the 'VERY fragile' warnings are a bit scary

Planet-x- have this more conventional full carbon design with SRAM Rival for £1099

I saw the "very fragile" warnings, which I thought seemed a bit ott! hopefully they are just being very cautious?

Or it means please do not play with expensive bike, if you really want it you can have a ride otherwise keep your dirty mitts off !

What bit says fragile?
They would not sell a bike that is not safe , it is like the warning sticker you get on a rim .

Doing a quick google search carbon is just as strong as other materials but if you have a crash that damages the frame then it is generally more of a problem than a alloy bike.
With normal riding you are not going to have it fall apart .

In their specs it states:

"MaintenanceClean very regularly with suitable products available in our department store for bike maintenance. Part of this bike is made up of composite materials. These materials are very lightweight and therefore VERY fragile. You must handle this bike with care. Do not place anything on the bike (example: inside car boot). In the event of a fall, do not ride it before having it checked by a competent technician."

I am sure they are no more fragile than other carbon frames, and stronger than alloy but just seems a bit off-putting to read on the marketing blurb.

Yup sounds like standard stuff for handling carbon frames.

Imho i prefer to ride alloy of some sort having always riden either steel, aluminum or titanium.

If i had the money to splash on really nice bike i would go titanium but thats a purely a choice as i do not like the extra large "tubing" that most carbon bikes seem to have.

re-opening/bumping this thread as I've only just seen this bike (maybe it was always in there and I went in with not that sort of money to spend)

Anyone bought/ridden one of these since the thread opened?

I have the proceeds of a house sale burning a hole in my pocket now and I must admit I was very taken by this

I wondered if people shared my thoughts that with the frame being described as a little "soft", that the Facet 5 (same frameset as the 3) at £1299 with SRAM rival groupset would not be such a good buy compared

Oh dear..my list of "wants" has now become

  • 'bent trike
  • decent road bike
  • Frameset to rebuild my Country Explorer

Had a little ride around the store at Lakeside on the Facet 3 while waiting for them to build up the Triban 3 I had just purchased. The frame was too small and I didn't think much of the styling but it felt quite good and at £900 is very good value.

However Planet X have reduced the price on the Pro Carbon bike linked above to £999...

(If only I didn't already have a Boardman Carbon!)
