This is the first review I've ever done - so be gentle with me. Please also bear in mind I am no expert on the cycle porn that the regulars on the boards drool about. This is a review from a regular cyclist but no expert.
Summary
This jacket one of Decathlon's own branched goods on the B'twin label. On the website it is advertised for 60 quid but I got mine on sale a few weeks ago at the Giltbrook (nr Nottingham) store for 35 quid.
Warm and breathable?
According to the blurb it is a warm, waterproof and breathable 3-layer fabric. I can say for sure it is warm - I've done the 15 mile commute to work in the cold (around 3 'C) with only a thin Decathlon base layer underneath and I was nicely - and the wind was kept out too. It seems pretty breathable too as I'm not getting to work covered in sweat.
Waterproof?
I can't say how waterproof it is as I've not been out in the wet in it as the only time I have used it when it was raining it was pouring down and chose to wear my Endura eVent waterproof over the top of it. But from the look of it the jacket would keep you pretty dry for around 30 mins if caught in a bit of rain.
Practical features
The jacket is well made, and is roomy, but not so roomy that I can't wear my waterproof over the top. If you are slightly portly like I am you will find the jacket fine to wear - and if you are a skinny rib it won't flap around.
There are three pockets at the back plus the midle pocket also has on top of it another smaller zip up pocket which is handy for keys, coins etc.
There are underarm zipped vents and very handily these (and the other main zip) has a very large tag so you can use the zips when you have full finger gloves - which is a nice touch.
Has velcro tighteneres at the end of the sleeves and nice soft collar too.
On the left arm there is a small zip for a small pocket that has in it a reflective armband with a velcro strap that you can then put around your arm. A bit gimicky really and not so useful for UK cyclists who would really need any extra reflective on the right arm.
The only downside
On the subject of reflective bits, the jacket has a fair bit of reflective material but this is mainly at the front and the said. There is no reflective material on the back of the jacket which I think is the only thing that lets it down. There are reflectives on the sleeves but I would have liked to see a bit on the back too.
Conclusion
I know some of the cycle porn addicts on the boards would scoff at Decathlon gear but at the 35 quid I paid this jacket has to be a bargain. I could not tell you how this jacket would compare with another jacket at the full price of 60 quid but I would say it has to be worth checking out if you can get to a Decathlon store as it is well worth considering.
The only thing that lets it down is the lack of reflective on the back.
As I said, for 35 quid it was a bargain, hence the 9 out of 10 score.
