I went out for a 35 miler this morning, in the bitter Northern cold. After 25 miles I got my first ever road bike p*******. Pulled up, changed the tube, and thanks to a trio of helpful passing roadies with a good pump, got the tyre back up to full pressure.

5 miles later, another p*******! Only this time, I had no spare tube and foolishly hadn't packed my repair kit. I was only 4-5 miles from home, so called the missus to come and collect me. The shame of it! I thought I must've left something in the tyre after the first change, but I've just repaired both tubes and the holes were in different locations.

Oh well, won't be so complacent with my supplies in future. Of to buy two tubes & a fully stocked repair kit from the LBS this afternoon.

That was unlucky!

I've got a wee pack of those Park self-adhesive patches for emergency use. Not had the misfortune of getting a p******e twice in the one day, yet.

'Off' - Anyhow, were they damaged that bad that you need two new ones?

Sorry to hear of your bad luck HP.

Got my second ever road puncture yesterday 10 or 11 miles into a planned 40. It kind of put a dampner on proceedings and rather than heading further countrywards I decided to head back in the Belfast direction so ended up only doing 25 miles.

Only bonus of the day, if a bonus can be had in such situations, was that I was able to fix a dreaded rear wheel flat myself and I got up a hill still having a spare gear without stopping whereas previously I have always had to stop for a break at the bottom before tackling it.

I've had a great deal of luck with punctures. My bike (Allez Elite) came with fairly poor tyres and I had a few punctures earlier on in the year. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not - but I changed my tyres in May for the Etape Caledonia and I've only had one since. Even that one wasn't bad I went out for the bike and the tyre was flat. It had a small curly metal piece wire right through, so it must have happened pretty close to home.

Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. Unseen pothole caused both tyres to puncture. I had one spare tube and a repair kit but the repair was useless. Wife came and got me.

Yep I carry these too. They work wonders for punctures.
I used to throw away tubes after a puncture as I couldn't be arsed with all the faffing about with glues.
Now with park patches, a puncture is fixed, done and dusted in seconds.
