Welcome td1982. The spokes on the drive side are tighter than those on the other due to the dishing of the wheel. What wheel is it? May be the whole wheel needs to be re-built by a proper wheel builder, your lbs should either use one or be able to point you in the right direction. A personal question, are you of, ahem, large proportions? or do you carry heavy articles, if so the wheel will definately need the attention of a wheel builder who will build the wheel to meet your requirements.

they're only cheap wheels and hubs as its a triumph bike designed by raliegh, i'm looking to buy a specialized globe next month and hopefully don't get the same problem, i'm currently 23st

Cheap wheels are made in the factory by machines, so the tension on the spokes can vary a great deal. Once one spoke goes, the rest will follow in quick succession as each spoke has a greater load placed on it. I've just had a look at the globe and would recommend that you get the bike dealer to give the rear wheel a going over because at the price you are going to pay the wheels will probably still be machine made. Good luck.

if you weight 23st mightbe worth gettting the rear wheel on you bike rebuilt to get better tension, also might be wortrh having an new wheel built with more spokes say 36 instead of 32 etc..

spokes tend to break to to eneven tension across all the spokes - it ia amazing how many new bikes seems to come with crappy tensioned wheels
