have just discovered a broken spoke in my rear wheel (alex da-22, 32 spokes)

1. is it safe to ride on the wheel until I fix it?
2. Is it easy to fix?
3. If the answer to 2 is yes, could someone point me in the right direction
4. or would it be easier to take to my LBS

I suspect this is one of those things that is ridiculously easy "once you know how to do it"!!

thanks

I rode 50km yesterday with a broken spoke, but then I had to. It's safe enough (depending on how out of true your wheel is/gets) but I wouldn't personally do it unless I had to. Remove the broken spoke first though. You don't want it flapping around and fouling things up!

It's simple enough to replace a spoke but a bit trickier to true the wheel (again, depending how out of true it is). Truing is a job you can do yourself with nothing more than a spoke key but again it's not something I'd do unless it was an emergency fix.

I'm intending to take my wheel to an LBS to replace the spoke and true the wheel. Unless you're feeling keen to have a go, I'd suggest you do the same!

rear wheel and no doubt on the drive side. Easy enough to replace - getting the casette of can be tricky but easy enough with the right tools. Get a spoke the right length replace and tighten till the wheels straight again. you may well find more rear wheel drive side spokes going the same way soon, may be worth having the whole wheel respoked with stainless steel spokes

I broke my first spoke last month (rear wheel too) I cycled about 50km on it too, it did become a bit of a pain as the wheel started to warp and and brakes started to rub. It might be easy enough to replace but a lbs said it'd be £7 including wheel true and I could pick up the bike that evening; I just told them to go ahead.
