Hi all,
Due to recent events I unfortunately broke my skaphoid in my right wrist, this is meant I can't use my beloved road bike for a couple of weeks while it heals up. In previous posts I've mentioned my upcoming trip to the lake district which means I would like to keep my fitness up for that and just general well being.
So with payday around the corner I'm looking into the possibility of purchasing a static trainer, I understand a turbo trainer will be easier to use with the stability but rollers are supposedly more fun and are more realistic. I know this has been discussed before but would anyone be able to help out with any advice and if anyone has had the same/similar injury any input would be extremely great full.
Cheers

It's scaphoid, I have broken both of mine and can take a long time to heal so best luck

Rollers won't reduce the pressure on your wrist.

A turbo will allow you to sit up and relieve the pressure, but it's also possible it will make you want to blow your brains out though boredom, IME anyway.

Can you not just go out for a run?

Turbos are less preferable to liposuction without anaesthetic. I've had two turbo trainers and I was stupid enough to think that I'd enjoy the second turbo more than the first. I was wrong - I hated it more. You need to be single minded to use a turbo trainer. I preferred to be out in the sleet and freezing rain in winter than be warm, snug and comatose on the turbos.

I broke my scaphoid bone it took over a year to heal, hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery.

A turbo will probably be better than rollers as smokeysmoo said you can sit up and take the pressure of your wrist. They can be boring though! I find sticking my headphones on and playing some fast paced music helps but after 40 mins I'm bored!

Turbo if you fall off rollers your going to do more damage and riding one hand down is going to make your all off especially of your not experienced with rollers

With a bust scaphoid? Are you mad?
Brisk walking or power walking as the fitness magazines call it is helpful. Turbo trainer is good as you can sit up while doing it.
Keep the weight off the wrist too.

Is the hospital sure you have broken it or are they plastering it for a fortnight and then taking it off and re-Xraying? Its a teeny tiny bone and causes no end of pain. I've broken mine a couple of times and its not fun.

..and if it does not heal properly, it can give long term arthritic problems

Terrible bone to heal, did mine in falling off some scaffold, two years later can still be painful and when i had another x ray a couple of months ago on same hand ( broken thumb this time ) was told by doctor it takes so long due to fact the scaphoid has a very poor blood supply

It's in a splint for two weeks and they are x-rating and taking an MRI tomorrow to see if it has improved. I have full mobility in the wrist but at certain twists and turns it is painful.
