They are great aren't they ?

New van doesn't have a decent space for a large smartphone (and wallet type case) so when connected for android audio the phone ends on the floor or in the glove box.

Brodit do mounts specifically for various cars and they use the edges of the car's trim to clip into. You then fit their adapters for a particular phone, or get their generic adapter - I went with the generic phone adapter as my phone is in a case.

Holds phone really secure, far better than using an air vent. If you change car, you get a new car fitting, retaining the phone adapter.

Years ago when I used wired in cradles (Nokia 6310i) before Bluetooth in cars, I always used model specific Brodit mounts, as you say they’re brilliant. However hanging up an iPhone in view IMO is a massive distraction (and kids especially seem to have them hanging in the middle of the windscreen), I have mine tucked away out of view on driving mode so only calls come through.

The phone will usually be in my pocket, but for Android Nav it has to be plugged in physically, and this then disables the phone completely - just means the phone isn't swinging about or falling off a crappy mount - just don't have anywhere near the USB socket to pop the phone. I like how it's so secure and no drilling etc needed of the car.

Had a Brodit I my XC90 and it was excellent, but in the van with wireless carplay it doesnt matter where the phone is so it stays in my pocket. All the more pertinent as your can't even touch the phone while driving now.
