Some short cycle facilities are useful - eg those 6 foot long cycle lanes that bypass a no entry sign

And of course we get a statement from The Taxpayers Alliance.

Who the **** are the Taxpayers Alliance anyway?

Oh that's right, they are a tory affilliated NGO who will probably go very quiet when the tories get in.

After looking at the picture the last thing that I would do is stop in that little square of road. It doesn't appear to be anywhere near the junction and I would imagine that you could end up with a car going straight into the back of you.

What a stupid statement, the lane is only a meter or two long, in general, would you ride in the opposite direction to the traffic using a cycle lane?, i know i wouldn't, you already run the risk of idiotic drivers taking you out when going in the same direction......bloody BMW driver this morning :biggrin:

Not sure how pro-Tory they are- here's an article from their website slagging off Tory policy;

I find short cycle lanes extremely annoying, sometimes downright dangerous. Particularly when they are parallel to the traffic and when they're just about long enough to fool you into believing they might go on for a while.

I rode along the Embankment the other day, and there's one of those deceptive cycle lanes under the Battersea railway bridge. There can be quite heavy traffic under the bridge, and it's dark and narrow, so you think, brilliant, a cycle lane, I'll be safe. And after 100 yards it ends and you have to reintegrate into heavy traffic in an awkward spot, where cars are lining up to turn left.

The guy in the picture is probably totally right in ignoring the cycle lane, staying on the road and positioning himself clearly.
