Brighton area help needed

Have a mate who is nearing the end of a mammoth treck for him, riding from each 1st class cricket ground to the next. Today's leg is Brighton - Canterbury but he reports bike stuck in gears 8 and 16. He knows nothing about bike maintenance and is in need of either some mech assistance , a shop suggestion, or a bike to borrow.

If anyone can help it would be most appreciated. He's reaising cash for leukemia and lymphoma research and only has 3 days left to do.
