Recently bought a Specialized Allez second hand and find the brake power terrifyingly poor. That may be due to the fact that I am a fairly chunky chap and so need a lot of stopping power. I'm going to get some new pads first to see if it makes a difference but wondered if I wouldn't be better going the whole hog and changing out the Calipers for something a bit better than the stock ones.
I was thinking along the lines of Tiagra as they look like a reasonable upgrade at a reasonable cost .

Anyone made the switch or able to give me some advice?

TIA

I weight about 100kg and changed to 105 brakes which were much better in the dry. The original brakes were useless and borderline dangerous. Also changed the pads for better wet braking.

Eventually bought a bike with hydraulic disk brakes which works a lot better.

Beware of kool stop 'dry' pads in the wet. Im about 220lb and those pads are like icecream when it starts to rain. There us absolutely no bite in them at all... However when its dry, they are absolutely flawless

If they are cheap Tektro Calipers I would change them also,

Tektro is latin for "Cant Stop"

Vote here for Swiss stop green and koolstop dual compound black and salmon. Both good in wet and dry
