OK- managed to pop my rear tube today. Consequently had to load it into the car to get the inner tube changed (yes, I know... but I haven't been cycling long...!)

Anyway. To get bike to/ from bike shop it need to go in car, and as I only have a micra, I have to take the front wheel off. No biggie.

However, now I'm home and have gone to put the wheel back on, I can't reattach the brake cable into it's little holder thingy (the one that needs taking out before you can remove the wheel). Any advice? Will be a bit buggered for getting to work tomorrow if I can't get the brakes reattched! It's like suddenly the cable is too short. I know it needs to be pretty tight, but I physically cant get it into it's holder. I don't want to pull too hard and snap something!

Am perfectly willing to accept that I am doing something stupid- in fact, it is quite possible!

Thanks
Helen

As Mr Austin says, that's probably it. Maybe the bars turned around or something that's pulling the cable tight. Follow the cable down from the lever and you'll no doubt find it :0)

On new bikes with not much slack in the cable they can be quite tight, maybe just needs a good shove.

I have sorted it now- thanks for all the help.... Especially Steve!
It was the other end of the cable that had come out of the shifter.
Er.... my excuse is that I was hot and bothered after doing 15miles, then pushing the bike a further mile and waiting in a layby for a mate to pick me up.

Oh yes.... I learned the lesson about leaving home unprepared. Had my lunch, though....

Well, I'm sure this won't be the last of my daft questions!

Always take spares.... spare tube or two if a roadie, puncture kit, multi tool, chain splitter, and a quick link....that's about enough without the kitchen sink ?

Glad it's sorted - nearly melted just wiping the bike over after this morning's run !

Allan keys that cover your bikes sizes, should only be about four. I also keep a few cable ties in the seatpost, they can get you out of a lot of situations.
