hiya eveyone,

i want to upgrade my brake pads and was considering these,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pairs-o...sure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item3a940efe38

but having checked my brake pad holders do not have the screw to affix the pads. which are the pads that i could buy for most effective braking and that leave no damage to the wheel, ive got sora brakes?

also does anyone know offhand what the pads should be reduced to before replacing in millimeters?

thanks mark

You need pads and shoes. The Sora ones are like an integrated unit. You need something like this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ashima-ultralight-standard-brake-blocks/

Take a look on chain reacrion cycles and the clarks pads and shoes they are excellent, they are white in colour with red and black pads you can ususall pick them up on sale as a set of 4 sometimes including new cables

I think these are the ones @jack smith is referring to.

Decent pads at a good price, you'll need 2 packs to get sufficient pad holders, you'll then have a spare set of pads for each caliper and qualify for free postage. I've been using them for over a year now and have bought more, just need to be careful in the wet when they're new but that probably applies to most if not all pads.

thanks jack. good idea but do i need new brake cables? how about just these x2?

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...sWmUtTU3hOJBGebbn4qx0aAqLG8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

also i took the stickers off the wheels because im not into branding so much and prefer a plainer coloured bike but did they have a function regarding the braking?

also was thinking of getting a better chain? do you consider it a useful upgrade or should i leave alone?

thanks smokey. "a touch of 'toe-in'" would you mind explaining?

thanks again everyone.

If your cables are OK then leave them alone

Likewise leave your chain alone (just wipe it over and lube it), until it has stretched beyond the recommended limit at which time it will wear the cassette unduly, I've found this is after 2000 miles. SRAM and KMC are popular replacements.

"Toe-in" explained here
