Hi guys,

I hope you are all well.

I'm currently running shimano own brand brakes on my bike at the moment. Two things with them... One they don't seem particularly strong at actually braking, and secondly aesthetically they don't help my bike.

The rest of the setup on the bike is ultegra 6700. So my question is... Do I get the 6700 brakes (which can be found relatively cheap) or do I spend a little more and get the 6800?

Would be open to any other brake options, and any advice would be appreciated.

Thank your

set up right then any should be ok , if its aesthetically pleasing your after then thats down to what ever floats your boat.

So there power of stopping shouldn't be any different between shimano own brakes and ultegra level brakes?

Oh I see. I didn't know if the dual pivot of the 6800 would be significantly different.

I assume then because of your response, there would be a difference between ultegra and shimano own

There are two main aspects to brakes - the amount of power transfer from the lever and the effectiveness of the pads.

The Ultegra brakes will be very similar as regards power transfer and a bit better than stock Shimano.

For pads you probably want to look at Swisstop (expensive but good) and Koolstop (a bit cheaper but strill very good). These will be an improvement over the stock pads.
