Bracket clicking and a bent spacer

Have been having issues with the bottom bracket on my Boardman CX for a while now. Have had the pedals off a couple of times, removed the seals, degreased, then regreased. It's been fine for a couple of miles and then has started clicking again. One thing I had noticed was a slightly bent "metal spacer" (I don't know how else to describe it - is there a technical term anyone!?!?!) that fits over the rubber seal on the non chain ring side. After more clicking I decided to remove this "spacer" and did nothing else to the bike. Result - the clicking has now gone - permanently!!

I'm assuming that grit was getting into the space left by the bend in the spacer and clicking against the BB30 housing. Have also checked the pedals for lateral play without the "spacer" and there's none. So what it actually did I don't know (suggestions on a post card please!!). However - assuming that things are there for reason I want to try and source a replacement. Anyone any ideas where I might get one?

It was probably keeping the seal in place.
Take the old spacer to your local LBS. They should sort you out.

Sounds like you are describing a wave washer. Google it or look on Park tools.
If it is a wave washer it is supposed to be there it stops lateral motion of the spindle.
